We first introduce Careers Education in Year 8. Timetabled lessons are then taught on a modular basis through to Year 11. Classroom activities are teacher led lessons which include both discussion and group work. Content includes self-awareness, preparation for the world of work, choices at 14+ and 16+, job applications, CV’s and interview skills.
Sixth form students in Years 12 and 13 receive individual guidance in preparation for higher education and employment. Those in Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 may also receive formal interviews with an officer from the Career Service.
All students are entitled to a two week work placement in the spring term of Year 10. Also in Years 10 and 11, students target their goals in attendance, punctuality and study. Success from this is recorded within their National Record of Achievement, which is recognised by both employers and training providers. Career Conventions and Work Experience days are organised within the school.
