Links with Parents

“The schools’ links with parents, agencies and other institutions continue to be a strength. The quality of and quantity of information provided for parents is very good” Ofsted ‘08 The school expects parents to sign up to the Home School Agreement. It is recognised that children succeed when home and school are working together and expectations are clear. The agreement clarifies these expectations. Copies of the Home School Agreement are included in the student planners.

Keep in Touch

One of the commitments made by the school is regular communication with parents. In addition to parents’ meetings there are newsletters sent home to all parents. Our much hailed school and community magazine ‘Life’ is published regularly and our state-of-the-art website updated daily. Parents also receive a schoolwork guide so that they know the topics which children will be studying each term.

Get Involved

The school actively encourages parents to be involved in their children’s learning. We run projects aimed at equipping parents to help with their children’s homework, reading/literacy skills and maths/numeracy skills. Special evenings are held in order to inform parents about activities such as trips abroad and to provide specialist advice. We recognise that students need their parents to help in order to reach their full potential. Parents are actively encouraged to become involved in the life of the school and to share their skills and interests with students in a variety of ways. Young people benefit from this wide range of expertise.

As a Full Service Extended School, we have breakfast club open from 7.45am, a hobbies network, homework club and health facilities. Our aim is that every student ‘grows’ during their time at school. This means that we expect students to develop both academically and as individuals. Continuous assessment of progress is essential to ensure that students remain on track and any issues are recognised before they turn into problems.

We use a variety of techniques to monitor progress, and reward good work and effort through commendations, distinctions, and regular events to celebrate achievement.

Our ongoing relationship with Radio City 96.7 has allowed us to develop a unique awards scheme based around individual achievement, which has seen hard working individuals and groups rewarded with everything from concert tickets to iPods.
