Education Reform Act and the Wirral Agreed Syllabus

The schools’ RE provision is in accordance with the Education Reform Act of 1988, as well as the revised Wirral Agreed Syllabus of 1999. Both of these documents emphasise the continuity of good practice: "RE syllabuses must reflect the fact that the religious traditions in Great Britain are, in the main, Christian whilst taking into account the teaching and practices of the other principal religions represented in Great Britain." E.R.A. Section 8.3 "Collective worship organised by the school is to be wholly or mainly of a broadly Christian character. It is not necessary for every act of worship to be of this character, but within each school term, the majority of acts must be so." E.R.A. Section 7.1 -7.3
